Doug Bentz Scholarship for Agriculture

After attending Butte College, Doug Bentz returned as associate faculty in agriculture and welding in 1973. He was hired as a full-time agriculture instructor in 1975, a position he held for more than 20 years. From 1996 to 2001 he was department chair for agriculture and natural resources. He became assistant dean for career and technical education/economic development in 2001 and held that position until 2006. During that time he also served as interim director of the public service center and of technical prep. In 2006 Doug became interim dean for career and technical education/economic development, and in 2007 he became a dean of student learning. He held that position until he retired in 2010.

Doug was a champion of career education as well as an active member of the local farming community for many years. He served on numerous committees and boards in support of local agriculture. Doug was remembered by a fellow faculty member as an excellent man and human being whose calm, reasoned leadership touched many students and colleagues.

Established in honor of Doug Bentz, this scholarship is awarded to a full time student majoring in agriculture residing in Butte County.
